AMD's Llano APU might be locked and loaded for 32nm SOI at Globalfoundries, but the fabrication of Ontario - based on the Bobcat architecture - remains unconfirmed. Digitimes' sources claim AMD is planning to outsource manufacture of Fusion CPUs to TSMC's troubled 40nm bulk process.

Considering Ontario was being prepared for 40nm Bulk, it must be the Fusion part AMD is considering for TSMC's 40nm process.

Ontario is the first iteration of the Bobcat microarchitecture - which is designed for TDP of 1W to 10W, in netbooks, tablets and ultraportable devices. It is a system-on-chip APU with a highly efficient dual-core CPU and AMD has previously promised "90% of mainstream performance" at sub-10W TDPs.

Both Llano and Ontario are scheduled for release in early 2011. 28nm bulk process for both TSMC and Globalfoundries are expected shortly after, so we can expect a die shrink refresh of Bobcat.
