[Rumour] ATI Radeon HD 5830 delayed to February 5th

ATI's next release, the Radeon HD 5830, previously rumoured for late January has now reportedly been pushed back to February 5th - around the same time as the release of the HD 5400/5500 series. A substantial gap in price and performance has existed between the HD 5770 and the HD 5850 since November. With the HD 5850's availability issues, the price gap has increased even further. Today, the HD 5770 1GB retails at an average of $169, with the HD 5850 all the way up to $299.More next page.

A substantial gap in price and performance has existed between the HD 5770 and the HD 5850 since November. With the HD 5850's availability issues, the price gap has increased even further. Today, the HD 5770 1GB retails at an average of $169, with the HD 5850 all the way up to $299.
Filling in the gap is the HD 5830, rumoured to be priced at $239, half way between the HD 5770 and the HD 5850. Had the prices of the HD 5770 and HD 5850 been stable, we might have seen a $199 price tag, but in today's market, $239 it is.
The specifications are still unknown, though 1280 SP is being rumoured at lower clock speeds. Aimed to be a direct replacement for the HD 4890, the HD 5830 may end up being a good price-performance offering in the HD 5800 series, assuming AMD do not disable too much off Cypress. Of course, we can expect the prices to fall in the future.
