Turkish website DonanimHaber reports that the upcoming Geforce GTX 460
will be priced as low as $199 for the 768 MB model, and the 1GB will
come in at $229. These are much lower than the previously rumoured
prices of $230 and $250, which themselves were quite competitive.
However, with the GTX 460 768 MB at $199, it is clear that Nvidia is
going on the offensive.

On paper, the GTX 460 768 MB will be a potent performer, and is likely to outperform the $230 ATI Radeon HD 5830. The GTX 460 1 GB takes direct aim at the HD 5830, and the Nvidia card is likely to triumph in most situations, possibly even outperforming Nvidia’s own GTX 465.

It is clear that the GTX 460 is shaping up to be a formidable product, and Nvidia’s best in a long, long time. AMD will finally be forced to take action, presumably cutting prices of the Radeon HD 5830, and perhaps even the HD 5850.

It has been a dull three or four quarters in the mainstream segment, with no DX11 graphics card in the $200 sweet-spot. The GTX 460 can’t come any sooner. It is set to release on July 12th.
