[Rumour] Geforce GTX 460 to be priced against Radeon HD 5850

Fudzilla report that the upcoming Geforce GTX 460 is being targeted at the $279-299 range, as opposed to the expected $250. With the GTX 460 being a largely cripped GF100 chip, we wouldn’t expect it to outperform the HD 5850, which ends up just shy of the GTX 470. However, we can expect the GTX 460 to perform somewhere between the HD 5830 and the HD 5850. The GTX 460 has been widely rumoured to release during Computex – the first week of June.

Fudzilla report that the upcoming Geforce GTX 460 is being targeted at
the $279-299 range, as opposed to the expected $250. With the GTX 460
being a largely cripped GF100 chip, we wouldn’t expect it to outperform
the HD 5850, which ends up just shy of the GTX 470. However, we can
expect the GTX 460 to perform somewhere between the HD 5830 and the HD
5850. The GTX 460 has been widely rumoured to release during Computex -
the first week of June.

Judging by the unavailability of the GTX 470 / GTX 480 cards – it is likely that Nvidia have already stacked up defective chips which might just pass off as GTX 460. It is clear that there should be more GTX 460 cards available, but as with a GF100 card, we will wait and see what kind of quantities are available come June/release time. If GTX 460s are widely available, it might be a tough sell at $279-299, the same price as the HD 5850. Still, it opens up a viable option for consumers.

Along with the GTX 460, GF104 and GF108 based products are rumoured for the mainstream and entry level segments.
