2K Games has launched the sequel to its popular “shooter-looter,” Borderlands, in North America for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

The game's story takes place in Pandora five years after the events of the first game, setting from one to four players against Handsome Jack and the Hyperion Corporation, all displayed in the same unique art style as the original.

There are also new characters and skill trees, new environments, missions and enemies, and new weapons and equipment to keep players busy.

“Borderlands 2 is a game made by gamers for gamers,” said Christoph Hartmann, president of 2K Games. “The unique visual art style, all-new characters, loads of loot, 87 bazillion guns, and role-playing-shooting combine for a truly addictive experience, especially when played with three other friends. The initial response from the press has been fantastic and the game is poised to be one of the highest-rated titles in the history of 2K.”

Four additional campaigns will be available for the game between launch and June 2013, and players can buy a Season Pass that grants full access to these when released for $29.99 or 2,400 Microsoft Points.

For those not in North America, Borderlands 2 launches internationally on 21 September.
