Anyone who has watched the "new" Hawaii 5-0, the concept of a usable touchscreen table is nothing really new, and 3M should know as last year they showed off a 48-inch touchscreen table that could handle 20 fingers at a time. Well, they've just upped its game with a new reveal at this year's CES.
A 48-inch touchscreen table is oh so last year – literally – as 3M used this year's CES to show off the progress they have made in this territory. If you thought 48-inches was the cat's meow, wait until you see the new 84-inch lion’s roar.
Not only has the table doubled in size, but it can now handle 40 finger touches at a time—all the while, displaying images with a resolution of “4K” – 3,840 x 2,160. The touchscreen technology is sensitive enough that you can leave a bottle on it or even lean on it and it won't interrupt anyone from being able to open another window on the display.
Now if you think 40 finger touch ability is enough for anyone, 3M has other plans as they hope to ship a version that will be able to handle more than 100 touches. As you ponder that idea here's a video courtesy of VentureBeat showing off 3M's new table.
