The rumor mill continues to speculate about the smartphones that Apple is due to release later this year.

iPhone 6 concept 2 4.7 and 5.6 inch iPhones expected to be released in Q3, 2014

Apple shook up its smartphone lineup last year by launching two new models at the same time, the iPhone 5S and the relatively cheaper iPhone 5C. The future of this lineup is uncertain as of now, there have been rumors predicting that Apple will discontinue iPhone 5C because it has not been performing well. In the latest string of rumors originating from Taiwan via the Economic Daily News, it is claimed that the company is not going to shy away from launching two models this year as well, though one of them could have a 4.7 inch and the other a 5.6 inch display.

Apparently size wouldn’t be the only differentiating factor. Rumor has it that the 4.7 inch iPhone will come with Corning’s Gorilla Glass, a staple on the iPhone, whereas the 5.6 inch model is said to come with the sapphire covered display. There have been many rumors about Apple opting to replace Gorilla Glass with sapphire displays in this years models, Foxconn may already have developed prototypes as well. Its possible that there might be differences in internal hardware as well, if Apple aims to position the 4.7 inch model as a relatively cheaper alternative to the 5.6 inch one.

Rumors peg the release date in Q3, 2014. This isn’t surprising, seeing as how the third quarter is usually when Apple launches new iPhones. So even if the expected release date lines up with Apple’s traditional release cycle, it can’t be said for sure right now that these are the exact same models we’ll be seeing quite a few months from now. As always, a grain of salt is advised.
