The market’s wish of a larger iPhone might finally be fulfilled this year.

iphone 6 4.7 and 5.7 inch iPhones expected to be released later this year

Apple is yet to embrace the “phablet” phenomenon, where smartphones have very large displays. The first iPhone came with a 3.5 inch display which was later bumped up to 4 inches by the iPhone 4. On the other hand Apple’s rivals have lead the phablet category from the front, particularly Samsung, which has seen much success with its Galaxy Note lineup. Even majority of the premium Android smartphones available today offer displays that are greater than 4 or 4.5 inches. So the question most people usually ask is when will Apple finally catch on to this trend? All signs, and rumors, point to 2014.

It has been rumored for quite a few months now that a larger iPhone is going to be released in 2014, but there have been a lot of contradictions when it comes to display sizes. The company is reportedly toying with the idea of displays as large as 6 inches, but its too soon to say on what magic figure its going to settle on. A report coming in from China cites multiple Foxconn insiders who have apparently revealed that Apple is going to release a 4.7 inch and a 5.7 inch iPhone later this year. Both iPhones will reportedly come with fingerprint scanners as well.

These rumored display sizes will certainly push Apple into phablet arena, one that it has avoided for quite some time. Is the market going to be pleased that Apple has finally released iPhones that are in line with majority of the consumers’ expectations? Time will tell. Apple is expected to follow its usual release cycle, which means that the new iPhones might not be released until fall 2014.
