A look at Intel Z68 Platform with ASUS P8Z68-V Pro

When the overclocking capabilities of a P67 chipset put together with the graphics awesomeness of the H61/H67 chipset, the Z68 platform is borned. Today, we test out the new Z68 platform from Intel specifically on the ASUS P8Z68-V Pro motherboard to see if it has got what it takes to be called the best of both worlds.

CPU Overclocking

My attempt at overclocking a virgin 2500K was quite a successful one, reaching a maximum of 5.056GHz for a run of SuperPi which showed extremely great improvement over when the CPU was at 3.7GHz. The overclocking experience was fairly similar to overclocking on any other P67 motherboards, but remembering that this is the initial BIOS for the P8Z68-V Pro motherboard and therefore, much improvements are expected in future BIOS updates.

BCLK Overclocking

Hope that Z68 would have a better BCLK overclocking results as compared to the H67/P67? Not really. In fact, similar limitations were also met when overclocking by BCLK on the Z68 motherboard. The maximum BCLK reached on the 2500K was just shy of 105MHz.
