If you’re pining for an Android device that isn’t as big as the behemoths that have been launching as of late, Acer might have you covered with their upcoming smartphone.
Pocket-lint is reporting that Acer is planning to release a smartphone that will sport a 3.5″ in display, which is pretty unheard of in the Android universe these days. I’ve always maintained that Android manufacturers are ignoring that segment of the market or treating it as a lower-end market despite the fact that the past has proven that people are willing to pay a premium for high-end smaller devices (see: iPhone).
It looks like Acer’s president of smartphones ST Liew agrees with the sentiment:
“We believe that we will capture small screen smartphone and large screen smartphone,” said Liew. “A lot of people have started abandoning 3.5 inch. No, we are going to persist on 3.5 inch and we are going to make a 3.5 inch suitable for a segment of people that treasure smaller screen devices.”
Hopefully they don’t follow the trend of other companies and include inferior specs into the device simply because of the screen size. The report doesn’t mention any pricing or availability but it does say that it should be announced pretty soon.
