According to Mercury Research, AMD has gained market share year-over-year in Q3 2011, up by 0.5% to 18.8%. Intel's market share, meanwhile, dropped to 80.3%. Overall shipments were up 5% versus Q3 2010.

However, sequential market share increased for Intel, from 79.9% in Q2. AMD's fell from 19.4% during the same period. This drop is largely due to severe supply shortages for Llano at Globalfoundries' 32nm process. In view of this shortage, AMD chose to prioritize on the mobile market. This lead to a higher growth in mobile shipments for AMD compared to desktops. The average CPU price increased to $107 - the highest in five years.
