AMD, Intel Announce New Server Chips (Opteron 6000 and Xeon 7500)

AMD have officially announced in a recent press release of their Opteron 6000 series processors. The lineup consist of  12-core processors at the top end with claims of higher performance with a affordable cost

Intel, however brings up the fight with its recent announcement of the 8 core Xeon 7500 series.

The new lineup of server processors heat up the battle again with number of cores. We are just curious how this core-battle will end in the future although we might not see it soon.

One thing for sure though that the cheapest price (in bulks of 1000) 12-core Opteron costs nearly US$1,165, while the cheapest single
8-core Xeon will set you back a cool US$2,461.
