New low-end chips to compete against Intel’s Bay Trail platform.
AMD announced Wednesday a new lineup of new low-priced APUs formerly known as “Kabini” under the Athlon and Sempron brands powered by its Jaguar architecture.
These chips feature the same CPU cores found in the Playstation 4 and Xbox One.
The naming scheme for the new chips is as follows: Athlon 5350, Athlon 5150, Sempron 3850, and the dual-core Sempron 2650. These chips will feature AMD Graphics Core Next GPU core and will retail from $34 to $59. In addition, motherboards sporting the compatible socket will retail from $25 to $35 and will be available in the micro-ATX and mini-ATX form factor.
“With quad-core performance and AMD Radeon graphics, the AM1 platform is an affordable solution that provides great flexibility due to an infrastructure built to deliver a multitude of options to our end users and system builders,” Bernd Lienhard, corporate vice president and general manager, at AMD’s Client Business Unit said in a statement.
AMD’s new AM1 platform is available now globally from a variety of etailers and retailers.
