AMD Lower Power x48 HE Opterons

AMD introduced low-power HE versions of its 2.2GHz Opteron model 148, 248, and 848 processors. The new processors each consume approximately 55 watts of power, compared with about 87 watts for the standard versions of the chips. The first model to ship, the 248 HE is designed for single- and dual-processor systems like blade servers or network appliances. The 848 HE, designed for four-processor servers, will ship in May, while a uni-processor 148 HE is expected in June. AMD also makes low-frequency “EE” Opteron processors that consume about 30 watts of power.
