As we previously reported, Fudzilla confirms that AMD will release its Magny Cours dual-die MCM server CPUs in Q1 '10. They will be available in both eight core (dual Shanghai) and twelve core (dual Istanbul) options.

The Magny Cours CPUs will fit into the elongated G34 socket - which accomodates 1974 pins. Clock speeds are expected to be scaled down to deliver maximum power efficiency.

Magny Cours is expected to be a server-only CPU, thanks to its specialised socket G34. It has been rumoured in the past that a desktop version of the six-core Istanbul may be possible for the AM3 socket - although this possibility does not exist on the AMD roadmap. Magny Cours, as per the AMD roadmap, is the last major new product from AMD till the next-generation Bulldozer architecture hits stores in 2011.
