AMD introduced Athlon 64 processor 3400+, aimed at high-performance 32-bit applications and compatible with future 64-bit applications. AMD also announced availability of the Mobile AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+ for tablet PCs. The 3400+ will offer an Enhanced Virus Protection security feature, to be enabled by the upcoming Windows XP Service Pack 2.

The Athlon 64 processor 3400+ will be incorporated into notebooks offered by Alienware and Epson Direct. AMD Athlon XP-M processor 2200+, is being incorporated into a convertible PC from Averatec that combines the flexibility of a notebook and a tablet PC. List price for the 3400+ is $ 432 each in 1,000-unit quantities, while the 2200+ will cost $ 97.

Looking further down the roadmap, there will be a 3700+ based on 130nm Odessa core at the end of the year and a 4000+ (2.6Ghz) based on 90nm Newark core In Q2 next year. The 90nm Newark core will also have lower speeds like 3000+ (1.8Ghz), 3200+ (2Ghz), 3400+(2.2Ghz) and 3700+(2.4Ghz). Both Odessa & Newark sports 1MB L2 cache and 754-pin package.
