Along with the AMD Phenom II X6 1000T series come the Phenom II X4 900T series, codenamed Zosma. The 900T is nothing but Thuban/X6 1000T with two cores disabled. This fact led to speculation that the 900T will be unlockable to the full six cores. Finally, this theory has been put to test by a tester, who has successfully managed to turn the 3.0 GHz quad core 960T into a full six-core 3.0 GHz CPU.

The test was performed on an ASRock 890GX Extreme motherboard, and the cores were unlocked through the BIOS without any hitches. Of course, your mileage may vary, but if you are lucky, you might be able to pick up a quad core for under $200 and turn it into a six-core CPU!

The first of AMD's new Phenom II X6 and X4 900T products are set to release on 26th April.

Here's another success story using MSI 890GXM-G65 motherboard : http://forums.vr-zone.com/news-around-the-web/627804-msi-890gxm-g65-unlocks-up-six-cores.html
