Reported by on Tuesday, July 19 2011 5:01 pm

AMD is preparing to release a A8-3870 APU in Q4 2011, featuring an unlocked multiplier for easy overclocking. The A8-3870 will not directly replace the A8-3850, but co-exist with the A8-3850. The  GPU part will remain unchanged - HD 6550D - and TDP will remain constant at 100W.

In addition to the unlocked multiplier, A8-3870 is expected to feature a boost in CPU clock speed compared to the A8-3850. DonanimHaber expects the A8-3870 to be clocked at 3.1 GHz, but this could change.

Let's hope that by the time A8-3870 releases in Q4 2011, there will be easy GPU overclocking available for the Llano APUs as well.
