AMD Radeon HD 7770 Performance Preview: Bringing 28nm GCN to the Masses

Officially launched later today, the AMD Radeon 'Cape Verde' HD 7770 features stock 1GHz core clock speed, previously unheard of on entry level SKUs, along with the introduction of DirectX 11.1, PCIe 3.0 and the use of GDDR5 memory. The HD 7770 uses the Graphics Core Next architecture and requires one 6-pin PCIe connector, which is typically found on lower TDP SKUs

HD 7770 PCB - the relatively few number of components and empty spaces on the PCB suggests that smaller half-height configurations can be possible

GPU Die Shot - Unlike its bigger Tahiti brothers, the Cape Verde (123mm2) die is far less complex (365mm2) and doesn't have a metal shim at the edges to protect the core from overzealous HSF mounting

GPU-Z - compared to the Tahiti GPUs, the Cape Verde has about a third of the former's horsepower in terms of fillrate and comes with 1GB of GDDR5 memory in a 128Bit configuration

3DMark 11 Performance Score (CPU used was a i7-3960X) - the performance figures show that the HD 7770 is somewhere between a HD 6850 and a HD6870
