The multiple iterations of Android Jelly Bean gained market share steadily in the last month, according to the latest Android platform distribution numbers released by Google.

The number of active users using Android 4.1 jumped 2.6 percent to 36.6 percent, while 4.2 made its way to 8.5 percent of total devices, an increase of 2 percent. Gingerbread, after a long, long while, finally dropped to less than one-third of active users, while Ice Cream Sandwich stayed mostly steady with a drop of less than a point.

The latest distribution numbers also mark the first time Android 1.6 (Donut) and 2.1 (Eclair) dropped off the charts, as neither works with the latest version of the Google Play Store app. Not that the two ancient versions were taking up much share (they accounted for around 1 percent), but it’s still nice to see them finally going the way of the dodo.
