Rumours have been reignited about a smaller iPad after the Wall Street Journal made a statement that the company is testing an 8-inch model at the moment.

In typical fashion the Cupertino firm remains tight lipped, but it's been indicated through sources working at some of Apple's suppliers that the company may well be accompanying next month's launch of its third-gen 9.7-inch iPad 3 with a mini iPad using a resolution of 1024 x 768 not unlike the iPad 1 and 2.

Both AU Optronics and LG Display are apparently testing panels for the smaller tablet at the moment and it's also being rumoured that it will run on LTE.

But remember, Apple does have a tendency to play around with prototypes in various sizes which sometimes never see the light of day, so it's difficult to say if the birth of a midget iPad is definitively on the cards at this time.
