Apple is working on a 15-inch MacBook Pro with a Retina display and USB 3.0, according to a report by 9to5Mac.

The new model is expected to be an ultra-thin version of the existing MacBook Pro, ditching the optical drive in order to achieve this, which will force users to rely on the Mac App Store or USB Superdrive for software installations.

The mockup image designed by 9to5Mac below shows the predicted thinness of the new MacBook Pro on the left compared to the older model on the right.

The main selling point of the laptop will be, like the new iPhone and iPad, the “Retina” display, which is being described as “jaw-dropping.” This will be the largest size Apple has released a Retina display for and users will be able to choose from multiple resolution modes to adjust sharpness and brightness. The exact resolutions are not yet known, as Apple has decided to insult the intelligence of its users by labelling them by size, such as “big” and “small.”

Another major feature is the addition of a USB 3.0 port, the first Mac to feature the super-fast next-generation connection. It is also expected to have two Thunderbolt ports, giving users a choice for faster file transfers.

A release date and pricing have yet to be revealed.
