Apple is going to unveil its new iPhones next week, however, rumor has it that the company is already working on something new. iPhones with displays as large as six inches are reportedly being tested by the company.
Even though its Android rivals switched to larger displays a few years back, Apple stuck to a 3.5 inch display for the iPhone up till 2011. It was only last year when the company made a slight change with the iPhone 5, it bumped the display up to four inches. To put things in perspective, let us look at major Android flagships. Most of them have displays larger than five inches and some of those devices are performing quite well in the market. There seems to be consumer demand for smartphones with large displays and Apple just might be dipping its toe in the water with these prototypes.
According to a new report by the Wall Street Journal, Apple is evaluating a plan to offer iPhones with displays that range between 4.8 inches to six inches. Insiders believe that Apple is now more willing to move on to a larger display than it was in the past, it is said to be particularly interested in 4.8 inch display size. It certainly seems so that Apple might warm up to the idea of an iPhone with a larger display. For the first time ever it is going to release a budget iPhone which is expected to retain the four inch display size. Could Apple offer an iPhone with a larger display in the future while sticking to the four inch size for its budget iPhone? One can only speculate right now.
The report says that its unlikely anything will be revealed to the public regarding this before next year. That doesn’t come as a surprise, since the company is going to launch the new iPhones next week. The next iPhone announcement won’t take place until 2014.
