Ubisoft has revealed initial concept art and an early concept demo for Assassin's Creed, giving some unique insight into how the game was originally conceived.

Both the artwork and the demo show that the game was initially intended to be a Prince of Persia spin-off called Prince of Persia: Assassins, but that many of the original gameplay elements and ideas were already in place early on before they decided to make it into an entirely new franchise.

The video below shows a number of concept demos, with the Assassin's Creed one starting at the 1:30 minute mark. After viewing it, it is not surprising that the game was given the go-ahead, as it showed the typical throat-stabbing and sneaking around that we have come to expect from the Assassin’s Creed games.

The concept art also shows similar ideas, while also hinting at the original Prince of Persia setting.
