Even before PC users and enthusiasts have gotten used to the ATi RD480 and
the Cross-Fire capability that comes with motherboards using this chipset, we
are already seeing a new core logic chipset… The ATi RD580 chipset promises
to deliver faster performance than it’s previous gen RD480 with it’s dual x16
PCI Express lanes, compared to dual x8 lanes that the RD480 is capped at.
We were very fortunate to receive an early sample of a motherboard from ASUS
using this new chipset. It will be interesting to see how the ASUS A8R32 MVP
on the RD580 chipset will fare against the motherboards running the slightly
older RD480. We will compare this board against it’s younger brother, the ASUS
A8R MVP we reviewed a short while back. Does the dual x16 PCIE lanes help any…
or are the lanes never even fully saturated at dual x8?
