asus X1800XT TOP avatar ASUS EAX1800XT TOP

Being a one of the best innovator in both graphics and motherboard segment, ASUS has once again cooked up something extraordinary. Its latest product, the EAX1800XT TOP features a clock speed of 695Mhz for the core and 1600MHz for the memory, made complete with a custom designed cooling solution. Can this card topple NVIDIA’s top-end 7800GTX 512MB? Find out more now.

Just a while ago, we reviewed the
PowerColor X1800XT card
which has left us a rather
mixed aftertaste – be it in the performance sector, the availability or even
its price. Since the Powercolor X1800XT is a “Built by ATi” card, we took that
as a reference of what we should expect from most of the other X1800XT cards
making their
way to the market. As such, we concluded that Radeon X1800XT in general is
somewhat more expensive than the NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX 256MB and slightly
better in terms of performance but lacking in availability.

While the Radeon X1800XT has served its purpose of being a worthy competitor
against the GeForce
7800GTX 256MB, it could not overwhelm NVIDIA’s fastest card at the moment –
the GeForce 7800 GTX 512MB. Although the 7800 GTX 512MB has an advantage in
terms of performance, it is also sold at a much higher price compared to the
7800GTX 256MB and X1800XT cards out in the market today. Even then, the
availability of the 7800 GTX 512MB is very low at the moment and we heard
faintly that only 5000 of such cards are actually produced and meant for
international consumption. Perhaps the recent announcement of the start of mass
production for Samsung 900MHz GDDR3 memories will ease the current extremely
tight supply situation.

ASUS has been highly regarded as one of the most innovative Motherboard and
Graphics card makers in the world. Today, we’ll be looking at another of ASUS’s
impressive engineering – the ASUS EAX1800XT TOP. Being the very first card that
diverges away from the standard clock speed and cooling design provided by ATi,
ASUS went ahead to provide their custom designed cooling solution together with
higher clock speeds. While the standard reference X1800XT is clocked at
625MHz core and 1500MHz for Memory, the EAX1800XT TOP features a 695MHz
Core and 1600MHz Memory. ATi has actually advised their AIB partners to boost
the performance of the X1800XT cards by boosting the core and memory clock
speeds to better compete against the NVIDIA’s offerings. As such, not only ASUS,
but other top tier card makers like Sapphire and HIS are releasing their X1800XT
Performance Edition and X1800XT OC Edition respectively, which are clocked at
700MHz / 1.6GHz. Can this card’s performance be placed right at the top and
overtake NVIDIA’s top-end 7800GTX 512MB? Look on further….
