Amongst the mass of AIBs that handed out press releases marketing their new HD 7800 series graphics cards following AMD's official launch earlier today, ASUS released new HD 7850 and HD 7870 models that are worthy of mentioning in their own right as they steer away from the reference oriented mass.

Utilizing ASUS' well regarded DirectCU II dual-slot, quad heatpipe and dual-fan wielding aftermarket cooling solution, ASUS has stepped up the pace on these cards with higher than stock frequencies out of the box.

The core clock speed on ASUS' HD 7870 DirectCU II TOP has been boosted to 1100MHz (1000MHz stock), while the HD 7850 DirectCU II TOP comes in at 975MHz (860MHz stock). On the memory side of things, both models have their 2GB of GDDR5 memory clocked at 1250MHz (5GHz effective), where 1200MHz is the stock memory speed for AMD's reference models.

Both cards run the same video output configuration with a single DVI-I, 1 x HDMI and dual Mini-DP ports. If you're still confined to a D-Sub monitor (poor you!) ASUS has you covered with a DVI to D-Sub adapter in the packaging.

ASUS has not confirmed pricing on the two DirectCU II based HD 7800 offerings as yet, nor does a Google search give us any love at this time, but it goes without saying that these beefed up variants will be fetching a noticable premium over AMD's recommended pricing of US $350 and US $250.
