We have played around with ASUS Rampage II Extreme for a while to check out its OC potential on default air cooling setup. In fact, Core i7 is actually pretty easy to OC and we find that 4GHz is the sweet spot without any increase in voltages. We also investigate the different combination of base clock and multiplier to yield that 4GHz clock and it seems 210MHz x 19.0 works best for us.

We have played around with ASUS Rampage II Extreme for a while to check out its OC potential on default air cooling setup. In fact, Core i7 is actually pretty easy to OC and we find that 4GHz is the sweet spot without any increase in voltages.

We also investigate the different combination of base clock and multiplier to yield that 4GHz clock and it seems 210MHz x 19.0 works best for us. To get it stable at 210MHz base clock, we bumped up the QPI/DRAM voltage and IOH voltage slightly where all other voltages remain at default. I would reckon any enthusiasts getting similar platform will be able to achieve this easily.

Rampage II Extreme BIOS options is kinda insane and is probably the most extreme we have seen so far. (Check Page 2 for the BIOS screenshots). Most of the options and voltage ranges are probably overkill for a air cooled setup but may come in real handy under extreme cooled/overclocked conditions.

On a 3-way SLI GTX280 setup slightly overclocked, we are able to achieve a 3DMark Vantage score of P34027 and over 100 FPS in Far Cry 2 “Ultra Quality” settings at 2560×1600 resolution.
