The ASUS VG278HE features a TN-film LCD panel that's LED-illuminated. While this doesn't result in stellar viewing angles of IPS panels, it is refined to support high refresh-rates, and low response times. The 144 Hz refresh rate would let the monitor display an additional 24 frames per second, an additional 12 frames per plane, compared to 120 Hz 3D monitors. The TN-film panel ensures a snappy 2 ms response time.

The ASUS VG278HE supports a native resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels, but its 144 Hz refresh-rate demands dual-link DVI to perform optimally. The video adapter has to transport more than 2x the amount of frame data (even if it's not generating those many unique frames), and hence, two TMDS links are needed. Digital transmission of 1920 x 1080 @144 Hz equals the bandwidth needed for 3840 x 2160 @ 72 Hz. The monitor also includes HDMI and D-Sub (VGA) inputs, but we suspect the refresh rates could be lowered, if the monitor is taking input from them.

Thanks to its chops, the ASUS VG278HE supports NVIDIA 3DVision 2 (purchased separately). It also features 6-Watt stereo speakers. Its stand allows tilt and height adjustments. ASUS did not release pricing details.
