The “Thermal Armor” black plastic shroud (first seen on the P67-era Sabertooth) is supposed to prevent hotspots from building up and channel heat out of the motherboard via what their engineers call “smart shunt funnelling”.

Then, a metal backplate (TUF Fortifier) keeps the motherboard from warping (because of a heavy graphics card or CPU tower cooler, causes system instability).

A small 40mm PWM controller fan delivers some active airflow through the VRM heatsink, which is useful for water cooling setups.

Finally, dust covers allow users to seal off unused ports and slots to prevent debris accumulation in them.
