The UL80Vt has a stylish brushed metallic finish with the manufacturer’s logo on the back of the display.
According to our ASUS’ contact, the review unit is flown from the manufacturing plant in China. And when we powered up the laptop, we noticed that the OS is in Chinese!
Opening the laptop shows the chiclet-styled keyboard with Chinese characters on the neatly-spaced alphabet keys for Chinese input. The touchpad is below the keyboard and supports multi-touch gestures such as zooming in/out, flip left/right. At the top left corner is a unique ASUS GraphiX Boost button which lets you switch to dedicated NVIDIA GeForce G 10M graphics for graphically intensive applications, and Intel integrated graphics for power savings. Neat.
The ASUS has a 14-inch 16:9 widescreen LED back-lit display that supports resolutions of up to 1366×768 which is sufficient for viewing High-definition movies. The built-in Altec Lansing speakers are also located at both sides (close to the base).
On the left are the power connector, air vent, VGA out, HDMI out, two USB, microphone and headphone ports.
The right holds the DVD Super Multi drive, 8-in-1 card reader that can read SD, MMC, Memory Stick, MS-Pro, xD-Picture, Smart Media, mini SD w/ adapter and MS-Duo, a third USB connector and Ethernet port. There are no ports at the rear though.
At the base are the 5600mAh, 84Wh Lithium-ion battery, two 2GB Samsung DDR3 memory modules, Seagate 500GB 5400rpm Momentus drive and Intel Wi-Fi Link 1000 series module.
