Athlon 64 3400+ “CG” Initial Tests

As we know that Athlon 64 and Athlon FX family will take a major silicon
overhaul with the upcoming CG revision with Athlon 64 3400+ as the first
processor with that new core. CG revision will allow better compatibility with
memories especially for DDR400 SDRAM with its 2T DRAM timing enhancements so
when 1T Timing fails, it can still operate at 2T Timing. CG revision improve
compatibility when using two sided memories that allow 4 Bank memories to
operate at DDR400.  It
also removes the requirement for use of identical DIMMs for 2nd and 3rd DIMMs in
3-DIMM boards.

In order to run a  "CG" CPU, the board must first flashed
with BIOS that supports CG and the good thing is that a number of board
manufacturers had already provide BIOS updates for their boards. The part number
for a Athlon 64 3400+ "CG" is (F48h) ADA3400AEP5AR as compared to the (F4Ah)
ADA3400AEP5AP of current Athlon 64 3400+ "C0" revision. CPUZ shows that the
Stepping change from 8 to A and the Revision changed from SH7-C0 to SH7-CG. The
test results revealed that
there is no performance difference between a C0 and a CG running at CAS 2 or CAS
2.5 and CG revision is able to better memory compatibilities with 3 modules or
more than 4 memory banks.
