ATi R580 is still on track for launch on 24th January and the official name will be Radeon X1900 series then. There will be cards availability on the day of launch from the AIB partners but we chose to keep our fingers crossed here. There will be 3 flavors at the start; Radeon X1900XT, Radeon X1900XTX and Radeon X1900XT Crossfire. It is still unclear what exactly is the X1900XTX but it is most probably a higher clocked version. ATi R580 has 16 pipelines but features 48 shader processors now instead of 16 previously on the R520 therefore we can expect some performance boost here. The R580 is pin-to-pin compatible to the current R520 PCB therefore you can basically replace the R520 core with the R580 with no modifications needed. As such, the cooling design remains the same as well.
