ATI Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity Edition previewed

Chinese website PCpop.com have unveiled a review of ATI's Radeon HD 5870 Eyefinity6 Edition. As the name suggests, the Eyefinity6 variant is much similar to the standard HD 5870. The main difference is, of course, the Eyefinity6 Edition features six displayport outputs, so you can connect to a whopping 6 displays at the same time. Four such cards in CrossfireX, and you have a 24-panel giant display.

Eyefinity6 Edition. As the name suggests, the Eyefinity6
variant is much similar to the standard HD 5870. The main
difference is, of course, the Eyefinity6 Edition features six
displayport outputs, so you can connect to a whopping 6 displays at the

Apart from the display outputs, there are a few more notable changes. The Eyefinity edition features 2GB of memory, and is powered by 8-pin + 6-pin PCI-e power connectors, as opposed to 1GB and 6+6 pin for the standard HD 5870. A full slot is opened up for an exhaust vent, as six mini-Displayport connectors fit into a single slot.
Of course, not every game can be run on the immense pixel real estate of 6 display panels, though the benefits of Eyefinity can be applied to applications far beyond gaming.
The product is listed for availability in November 2009, though it is not clear when it will hit retail elsewhere and at what price.
