Here’s a close up of the R580 core onboard the ASUS EAX1900XT.
This time, the 90nm R580 core comes with even more tantalum capacitors
surrounding the die as compared against the R520 core. This particular core is
made pretty recently, in Week 50 of Year 2005.
Like NVIDIA’s Geforce 7800 GTX 512MB, the EAX1900XT comes with
1.1ns Samsung GDDR3 memory chips. 8 of these chips can be found on the card,
forming a total of 512MB of frame buffer. These blazing fast 1.1ns RAMs are
capable of doing a theoretical 1.8GHz, but are only clocked at 1.45GHz on the
X1900XT. Expect some decent headroom for overclocking on the RAM for this card.
With the support of AVIVO technology on this card, an ATi Rage
Theater chip can be found on this card. This chip basically handles the VIVO
functions that the card supports.
The cooling solution on the EAX1900XT comes as no stranger to us. This particular reference designed cooler is exactly the same as those
found on X1800XTs. Just like the reference X1800XTs we’ve complained about,
these same fans are just as noisy. Especially during
intensive 3D applications, the fan would spin up, creating a high pitched
whirring sound that can be irritating to some people.
