Infamous Twitter user @evleaks has a new hot tip for us – AT&T and ZTE are prepping a budget-conscious, entry-level smartphone going by the name of Avail 2 GoPhone.
Serial leaker @evleaks may have spoiled us with very glamorous reports of late, starring top-notch devices such as Nokia’s Lumia 925 or the still unconfirmed LG Optimus G2, but even him (her?, them?) has to take a breather from time to time and make do with revealing modest, entry-level phones.
On that note, I give you the AT&T Avail 2 GoPhone by ZTE. First off, let me just say that’s a terrible name. Even AT&T Avail 2 GoPhone sounds way too long and complicated for anyone to remember. So fingers crossed for Ma Bell to market the thing as simply the Avail 2.
That said, I’m sad to inform you the only thing @evleaks has on this Avail 2 is a full-frontal photo. Aside from that, there’s nada. No price tag, no release date, no spec sheet, no nothing.
In which case we have to rely only on assumptions to get an idea of what this ZTE-made phone will bring to the table. But you’re in good hands, as I am a champion on making guesses.
For instance, from looking at Avail 2’s pic and photos of the first-gen phone, released back in 2011, I can guess the upcoming handheld will be fairly petite, likely sporting a 3.5 or 3.7-inch display. Chances are the thing will run Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but pack a modest single-core processor or, at best, a dual-core clocked at 1 GHz.
A sure bet is also that AT&T will be making the Avail 2 available with prepaid plans and a reasonable price point. What exactly does reasonable mean? Well, the little guy’s predecessor used to go for $130, so we should probably expect the soon to be unveiled phone to cost around $150. Okay, enough with the guessing game and let's just wait for an official intro.
