baidu Baidu to set up research center in Singapore, focuses on Southeast Asia

Chinese web services giant, Baidu, has announced plans to set up a research centre in Singapore, to focus on Southeast Asia. The venture is a collaboration with Institute for Infocomm Research (I²R), a research institute of the Agency for Science and Technology Research (A*STAR) in Singapore.

Baidu has partnered Agency for Science and Technology Research (A*STAR), to set up a research centre in Singapore to develop web services in Southeast Asia. The joint  will be named Baidu-I²R Research Centre (BIRC). Baidu had started services in Arabic and Thai last year to step up efforts of expansion outside of China. With the joint venture, BIRC plans to focus more on Southeast Asia with researching in technologies including natural language processing, information retrieval and information extraction, speech information processing and multimedia processing.
