Warner Bros. Interactive has recently announced a new release in the Batman: Arkham series is coming soon to the gaming world, and that the game itself will be a prequel to the events of the current releases.
The game's official title is Batman: Arkham Origins and it is slated for a multi-platform release onto consoles and PC on October 25 of this year. Below you can find an excerpt from the game's official press release:
"Batman: Arkham Origins features an expanded Gotham City and introduces an original prequel storyline occurring several years before the events of Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City.
Taking place before the rise of Gotham City’s most dangerous villains and assassins, the game showcases a young, raw, unrefined Batman as he faces a defining moment in his early career as a crime fighter that sets his path to becoming the Dark Knight.
As the story unfolds, witness identities being formed and key relationships being forged."
Additionally, Warner Bros. has also announced Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, a companion game for handheld systems that will tie into the console version, and is planned to feature additional content into Batman's past.
Reid Schneider, Vice President of WB Games Montréal had this to say about the upcoming game:
“WB Games Montréal is honored to have the opportunity to create Batman: Arkham Origins, a new chapter in this amazing franchise” Reid began,
“We are huge fans of the franchise and are committed to creating an experience that offers players more of what they love, as well as the chance to play as a younger Batman within a fresh storyline and expanded world.”
The game's announcement is no surprise to some, as a month ago we covered the evidence that pointed to a new Batman: Arkham game being in development, including the quotes from Warner Bros. Q4 Transcript as well as the changes on the series' Facebook page.
It will be interesting nonetheless to see what in-game changes Warner Bros. makes to Batman: Arkham Origins' gameplay, and what new features are implemented. Fans of the caped crusader will no doubt be looking forward to the release, and the series itself has garnered considerable critical acclaim from the gaming world with many near-perfect and perfect scores from professional gaming websites.
It will also be interesting to see what source material that Warner Bros. has selected for Origins, and which of the expansive story arcs from the DC comics are utilized. There's a plethora of material to choose from, as the Dark Knight has a multitude of adventures to cite and use–along with a massive array of iconic villains and notorious baddies.
