If you’ve ever wished for an iPhone controller accessory that also doubles as a protective casing then the Bladepad Detachable iPhone Gamepad might just be it.

The Bladepad has two parts, a protective casing for the phone, and a detachable gamepad with a sliding mechanism.  There won’t be any wiring needed because the gamepad will connect to the phone via Bluetooth.

As far as triggers are concerned, the gamepad comes with dual analog sticks, and full console controller buttons (D-pad, ABXY buttons, start, select, L1, L2, R1, R2).  The gamepad charges via a micro USB port and the included charging cable will have a micro USB and 30-pin charger for the iPhone.  Developers are claiming that the Bladepad will be made from “high quality components and materials.”  A micro-processor and Bluetooth module from Texas Instruments will hum under a metal alloy casing.

Developers are also claiming that they are currently in talks with several “major game studios” and independent studios, and that “top action/adventure and sports games on iOS” will be Bladepad-supported.

Bladepad, LLC is planning to retail its gamepad for $99, but backers in the range of $69 to $79 will receive a gamepad around November.  Check out the Bladepad Kickstarter for more details.
