Blizzard Entertainment has announced plans for its seventh BlizzCon gaming convention, which will be hosted in early November in California, making up for the cancelled 2012 convention.

Blizzard Entertainment has announced plans for its seventh BlizzCon gaming convention, which will be hosted in early November in California, making up for the cancelled 2012 convention.

The event is one of the highlights of the year for fans of the Warcraft, StarCraft, and Diablo series of games, and replaces summer's E3, which Blizzard no longer attends, as the convention of choice for many gamers.

This year's Blizzcon will be held on Friday, 8 November and Saturday, 9 November at the Anaheim Convention Centre in Anaheim, California, the location of all previous events.

Last year's Blizzcon was cancelled, with Blizzard claiming it needed to take the time to focus on its games, including Diablo III and the Mists of Pandaria expansion for World of Warcraft. This will likely make 2013's event even more exciting for dedicated Blizzard fans.

The convention will provide hands-on previews of the latest Blizzard games, the finals for esports games like StarCraft 2, discussion with game developers and artists, contests and prizes, competitive and casual player tournaments, and commemorative merchandise.

Other things are also planned, but Blizzard is remaining tight-lipped about what those might be. 2011's event included a performance from the Foo Fighters, so we can likely expect something similar. Mists of Pandaria was also unveiled at that event, so Blizzard might have some big announcements planned.

“BlizzCon gives us a chance to connect with our players and share our latest projects in a very personal way,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard. “Members from all of our gaming communities have helped make this event bigger and better every time, and we look forward to meeting up and celebrating with them in November.”

More details, such as ticket prices, will be available closer to the event.
