An announcement from Gearbox and 2K Games yesterday confirms that the sequel to blockbuster game title, Borderlands will be released on September 18th in the U.S. for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC, with international availability to follow on September 21st.

Along with the disclosed launch date for Borderlands 2, 2K Games has upped the first official trailer which retains a similar overall gameplay style to the original, combining RPG character leveling with First-Person Shooter elements which the developer refers to as more of a <em>shooter-looter</em> genre of play.

The new trailer shows off new playable characters, new skill tree selections and vastly differing environments to the original.

Once again the game is set on the planet Pandora in similar Western dressing to the original, allowing players to get involved in quests through non-player characters and bounty boards. Four-player network multiplayer remains intact along with split-screen play for local players.

If you're already sold on it, you should be made aware that if you pre-order the game you will receive access to the Borderlands 2 Premiere Club which comprises several rewarding in-game items and bonuses, including a new Golden Gun Pack, a Vault Hunter’s Relic that helps boost a player’s loot and a Golden Key that unlocks an in-game mystery.
