integrated dual Gigabit Ethernet (GbE) ports. Leveraging Broadcom’s GbE and I/O
expertise, which is based on multiple generations of field-proven technology,
this new platform solution demonstrates Broadcom’s leadership in providing
highly integrated, feature-rich, flexible and scalable server I/O products. As a
result, Broadcom continues to deliver the best mix of performance, power
consumption and cost-effectiveness in the server market today.

The new Broadcom® single-chip I/O platform solution is designed to solve cost
and usability issues that server OEMs and end users face. Server OEMs have been
attempting to secure a cost-effective way to integrate dual-port GbE
controllers, PCI Express and PCI-X into the volume 2-way server market segment.

The flexible architecture in the new Broadcom HT-2000 I/O controller is the most
feature-rich 2-way server platform solution, enabling OEMs to scale beyond the
2-way segment into the 4-way and 8-way product segments using the same
enterprise-class architecture. End users can now take advantage of server-class
reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS) features regardless of the
server segment. These same RAS features that have become standard in the 4-way
and above server segment are now available to the 2-way volume server market.

The HT-2000 I/O controller is the industry’s only single-chip solution for
HyperTransport technology-based platforms that integrates dual-port GbE
controllers (including the MAC, PHY and serializer/deserializer chips) and all
of the industry standard I/O interfaces. Coupled with the recently announced
HT-1000 server I/O controller with RAID5 functionality, the HT-2000 provides the
most feature-rich server platform solution in the market today. The combination
of the HT-2000 and HT-1000 demonstrates the convergence of storage and
communications technologies in the core logic. To protect the user’s initial
investment, this HyperTransport server architecture will be scalable with future
generations of products.

With its high level of integration, the HT-2000 reduces component count on the
motherboard, significantly reducing OEM cost by up to 35 percent and power
consumption by 25 percent. From an on-board silicon cost perspective, the
HT-2000 can reduce cost up to 35 percent per system. These savings can add up
very quickly especially for budget-conscious small-to-medium sized businesses (SMBs).
Additionally, the GbE ports supported within the HT-2000 will be driver
compatible with Broadcom’s market-leading NetXtreme® and NetXtreme II™ family of
Gigabit Ethernet controllers. As a result, end users do not have to maintain
multiple drivers and manage multiple vendors since Broadcom serves as a one-stop
shop for all of their controller needs.
