Bug ‘eats’ 10,000 eBay sellers listings

10,000 eBay merchants saw their listings disappearing, in the blink of an eye, due to a software bug. The company guaranteed the recovery of the data, but it made no promises about the affected accounts’ sales histories.

According to eBay’s statement, the unexplained glitch hit sellers in the US, UK, Germany and Australia, and wiped out their listings. However, the process for their restoration is underway and will be completed within 24 hours.

Despite the company’s assurances, sellers are worried about the loss of their precious sales histories. It’s not an easy job to build trust and make a name in a virtual marketplace like eBay, and those affected are afraid they would see their efforts going to waste.

Truth is, the company will offer no compensation and will not guarantee the restoration of the sales history data. As they said, “We will keep our sellers apprised of our progress and apologize for any inconvenience resulting from this issue”, i.e. S*** happens.
