A couple of months after its release, Apple now lets customers buy SIM-free unlocked iPhone 5S through its online store.
Apple unveiled the two new iPhones back in September, iPhone 5S being the high-end premium smartphone. It was launched on all four major U.S. carriers, customers had the option of buying the smartphone either from the carriers or directly from Apple through its website or stores, however they could only purchase a carrier locked unit. Customers who want the flexibility of being able to switch carriers effortlessly or use the device on different carriers around the world opt for the unlocked model, and now they can finally buy SIM-free unlocked iPhone 5S.
As of this writing, the Apple online store gives a shipping estimate of 1-2 weeks for an unlocked iPhone 5S in the U.S. as opposed to just 3-5 business days for a carrier locked model. Apple hasn’t changed the pricing for unlocked models, with the 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants being offered for $649, $749 and $849 respectively. It should be kept in mind though that these iPhone 5S models are GSM only, so they’ll only work with GSM networks in any country around the world.
The SIM-free and unlocked iPhone 5S units can now be purchased from Apple’s online store.
