This is easily the most dazzling speaker on display at CES 2017. The JBL Pulse 3 is a completely new design, ditching the acoustic mesh grill of the Pulse 2 and instead, beaming its bright psychedelic colours through a tough, transparent acrylic shell. Lava lamp, anyone?
The light show does seem a lot brighter and cleaner as compared to its predecessors. Using the JBL Connect+ App, you can access its interactive features and activate different light shows to set the right mood.
Pulse 3 belts out your tunes for 12 hours straight on a single charge, and can now connect to more than 100 JBL Connect+ enabled speakers to bring the roof down!
The JBL Pulse 3 also features noise and echo-cancelling speakerphone technology for pristine voice-calls. You can also take this light-show to the pool. It’s fully waterproof, being rated IPX7, and disperses its sound 360°.
JBL claims that the Pulse 3 will sound better than version 2, but I do have my reservations. The old Pulse 2 had a very different driver configuration, so how sound quality will be affected by this radical new design remains to be seen. (Or heard) With the new glossy plastic shell, will the Pulse 3 also be more susceptible to scuffs and scratches?
Regardless, these questions will be answered once I spend some quality time with it.
- Wireless 360 sound + interactive light show up to 12 hours
- IPX7 Rated/Waterproof
- Access interactive features with JBL Connect+
- Connect up to 100+ JBL Connect+ Speakers
The JBL Pulse 3 will be on sale in Q1 2017, priced at US$199.95 (SGD286.63). More information is available on JBL’s website.
