Chartered To Make ATI GPUs For Handhelds

ATI and Singapore’s Chartered Semiconductor Manufacturing have struck a silicon foundry deal. ATI has received functional samples of its Imageon 2240 media processors for high-volume camera phones from Chartered. Following the successful prototyping, Chartered will start volume production on its 0.13-micron process, thereby providing ATI with additional manufacturing capacity for the chip. Chartered also announced the availability of new high-performance foundry processes.
