Chinese Superphone Jiayu G6 debuts updated Mediatek MT6589T chip clocked at 1.5 GHz
Chinese smartphone manufacturer Jiayu showed off their upcoming products at their press event at Shenzhen last weekend. Among them is the new 5.7 inch Jiayu G6 phablet featuring a new Mediatek Quad Core chipset.
Jiayu's (first) new phablet, dubbed the Jiayu G6 is a 5.7-inch (1080p) quad core juggernaut. What's exciting about the Jiayu G6 apart from its impressive specifications will be the affordable price tag that products from such Chinese companies are associated with (think Xiaomi, Meizu and ZTE). Also in tow is a new Mediatek chipset with model number MT6589T.
Mediatek is a popular smartphone SOC manufacturer that has taken the budget smartphones market by storm. Nearly every quad core flagship in China including nearly 90% of the new budget smartphones in developing countries such as India are powered by Mediatek's dual core MT6577 or the new quad core MT6589 chipset. The new model number (MT6589T) might most probably be an updated model of the quad core MT6589. "T" might simply stand for Turbo as the new chip is clocked at 1.5 GHz instead of 1.2 GHz for the predecessor.
Other features of the Jiayu G6 include 2 GB of RAM and a humongous 5000 mAh battery and most probably Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean as well. Official release date and pricing haven't been disclosed yet.
