Most of us have probably played board games at some point in our youth and one of the bigger makers of popular board games, Hasbro, has announced its revamped line up for 2012. What's new is that three classical board games have been given an iDevice overhaul, or as Hasbro prefers to put it, zAPPed Gaming.

Hasbro is planning three titles in its zAPPed Gaming series, the game of life, monopoly and battleship. The first one available will be the game of life which will require that you own an iPad to play it. The concept here is that the iPad acts as an interactive part of the board game. Not only will it feature a virtual “spinner” (instead of dice), but it will also play video clips and animations.

Next up we have good old monopoly which will work with the iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch where the iDevice will act as a virtual bank so that there's no longer any need to handle cash. It will also display the chance and community chest cards – all of which are animated of course – and provide some new kind of mini games.

The third and last game is battleship, a real classic that normally doesn't require much more than a pen and some squared paper. In this instance though the game will require an iPad which acts as the playing surface and this is where all the moves are made. The press release didn't divulge much more, so we'll see how this one pans out.

The game of life is available as of right now and it retails for US$24.99, but the app is a free download from the App Store. Monopoly is expected to arrive in June, with battleship following sometime in September, with no word on pricing for either game.
