 COMPUTEX TAIPEI 2009 Highlights

Mr Walter Yeh, the Executive VP of TAITRA gave a warm welcome speech to the attendees. According to him, Computex Taipei 2009 is still going strong despite the economic downturn and has managed to attract 1,700 exhibitors to participate taking up some 4,600 booths. Computex Taipei 2009 will be taking place from June 2nd to June 6th and is aligned to attract 35,000 international buyers with US$20B in business deals according to Mr Yeh. There will be more trade meetings and summits this year as well to facilitate business discussions.

This year will also be the first year that we will be seeing a China Pavilion with 100 China based companies taking up 200 booths and some big names are mentioned like Tsinghua Tongfang, MALATA, HUAWEI. This is aimed to improve the relationship between both sides and also Mr Yeh expects more visitors coming from China due to the direct flights. Mr Yeh also believes there will be more buyers coming from India, South East Asia, Latin America and Eastern Europe to offset a drop in buyers from US and Europe side.

Mr. Zhang Li, the deputy secretary general of TCA reiterated the importance and success of Computex Taipei and so far has been fully booked with many companies still on the waiting list. The reason is that companies have been reducing their marketing budget on other areas and channel the funds towards this show. Also, Computex over the last 28 years had gained trust among the exhibitors and buyers by providing an unique B2B platform.

According to C.W Chen, the chairman of Topology Research Institute that mobile internet market is booming mainly helped by the fast rising popularity of low cost netbooks and smartphones such as iPhone and Google Phone. It is expected that there will be 2B mobile internet users by 2014 with a ratio of 1 netbook : 2 smartphone users. As such, we can expect to see many exhibitors showcasing their latest netbooks designs in Computex Taipei. To paint a clearer mobile future, there will be a 700-booth WiMAX & Communication Products area set up to showcase various mobile devices and services.

Not forgeting, VR-Zone will cover the interesting bits from the components manufacturers as well with the likes of Intel, AMD,  NVIDIA as well as the rest of the motherboards, graphics cards, memories, chassis and coolers makers.
