With modern processors dumping massive amount of heat, a good cooling solution is needed. Today, we take a look at Coolermaster’s newest heatsink, the Hyper 6+. Look here to find out how it compares to Coolermaster’s Vortex TX.

Processors are getting faster after every new release. However, something
that actually bothers most users is the amount of heat being dumped out of that
small chip. Intel’s latest offering, the Prescott line of processors are one
very good example of such. With over 100 watts of power being dumped out, a good
cooling solution is a definite must, to keep it running at stock speeds, let
alone overclocking.

Today, we’ll take a look at Coolermaster’s latest heatsink, the massive
oversized Hyper 6+. As it’s name suggest, this heatsink is an improvement over
the older Hyper 6 brother. How good is this heatsink as compared to a
Coolermaster Vortex TX? We’ll find out in this article…

(PS: More information about the Vortex TX can be found

Here’s some quick specs on this heatsink:

Heatsink Specifications:

  • Socket Type: K7 / FC-PGA370 / K8 (754/939/940) / LGA 775
  • Cooler (Including fan) Dimension: 118X107X146.2mm
  • Heatsink Material: 6 Heat Pipes + Aluminum Stacked Fins with Copper base
  • Heatsink Weight (Including fan) : 795.3g
  • Thermal Resistance: 0.25 ~ 0.36 C/W (Tested with Intel Pentium 4 570J)

Fan Specifications:

  • Fan Dimension: 100X100X25mm
  • Fan Speed: 1800 ~ 3600RPM (Controlled by PWM Controller)
  • Fan Air Flow: 31.33 ~ 72.14CFM
  • Fan Air Pressure: 0.96 ~ 4.46mmH2O
  • Fan Life Expectance: 50,000 Hours
  • Bearing Type: Rifle Bearing
  • Voltage Rating: DC 12V
  • Input Current: 6.62A +/- 10%
  • Noise Level: 20.6 ~ 46.4dBA
  • Connector: 4 Pin (PWM)

As per the specifications stated, the fan is a 100mm fan, however, it did
not
state that the fan is actually an LED fan. The initial power up of the
fan was a pleasant surprise:

Very pretty indeed. The fan was also powerful, exactly what enthusiasts and
overclockers want!
